Women in Ministry – Dr. Cheryl Fawcett
Article written by Emily Andrews
“Women are redeemed, gifted and commissioned to serve in our churches; not every religion in the world values that.” Dr. Cheryl Fawcett indicated in the Women in Ministry Power Trax session. There are so many ways in which Jesus honored women during his ministry. And women in ministry continue to be a rich part of our Christian heritage. Dr. Fawcett talked about women like Amy Carmichael, Fanny Crosby, Corrie Ten Boom, Joni Erickson Tada and many more! We were encouraged to study about these great women in history and each woman in the class committed to reading a biography of a woman that we want to emulate.
Women have a special skill set when it comes to giving a caring touch to the sick, adding personal warmth when welcoming students, and helping to organize and stretch resources when necessary. Women helped finance Jesus’ ministry with his 12 disciples, and were also part of a group of disciples who ministered with Jesus. Women and men complement each other and certainly do so when working together towards one major goal of spreading the Gospel to our youth.
Dr. Fawcett also encouraged us to pass a prayer rock (or some other type of symbol) between a friend or two and whoever has the prayer rock initiates prayer between them. After the session, three young ladies from Kendallville, Indiana decided to start a prayer journal between them to pass around and be in prayer for each other. Also, one of the Kendallville, Indiana leaders Monica had a “Wow” moment when Dr. Fawcett said that a woman (Mary Magdalene) was the last to see Jesus put in the tomb and the first to see Him alive. God certainly uses women in a mighty way!
