“This is the ‘funnest’ volunteer job I’ve ever done….It’s cool to think that the clothes are going overseas for people who need them.”
Kari, from Grace Community Church, in Goshen, Indiana, was one of 13 teens and three adult leaders from her youth group who participated in the first day of the We-Care Pittsburgh outreach.
The group assisted World Vision, an international relief agency, with preparing various clothing items to be sent to any of 46 countries.
The students, who chose the volunteer assignment from various afternoon options at the Momentum conference, took dozens of new clothing items out of plastic and packed them into cardboard shipping boxes.
Scott, one of the adult leaders, was impressed with both the students’ focus and enthusiasm: “These kids are really stepping up to the plate….They’re really working hard, they’re committed….We have about 200 youth, and these are the kids we’ve asked to be leaders,…kids who want to take it to a new level.”
The teens were excited about the direct impact their service would make. According to Patrick, one of the volunteers, “It’s absolutely awesome…to know that things that I’m touching will make a difference in peoples’ lives.”
Many other students flooded the city to directly impact Pittsburgh.
