'It’s About Being Missional', Chuck Bomar

Jay Delp, Conference Videographer, presented the mid-week review video. Before that, the Momentum choir led in song.

Eric Miller brought students on stage to illustrate right ways to do outreach.

Scott Feather, Grace College representative, talked with students asking them to consider that Grace College might be the place for them. “The heartbeat of what goes on at Momentum is the same kind of heartbeat at Grace College,” says Scott.

Scott introduced Lori Owen, a faculty member, who said that she could teach anywhere, but it’s the students who keep her at Grace.

Ed Lewis introduced Jim Brown and the icare program. Jim encouraged students to commit to giving $100 over the course of this year to help organizations relating to the poor.

Steve Fee led the youth conference in worship to God.

Ed introduced Chuck Bomar, founder of CollegeLeader and Lead Pastor of Colossae, in Portland Oregon.

Chuck asked the youth to turn in their Bibles to Ecclesiastes 2 to talk about life. Solomon was trying to seek satisfaction by trying different things. He pursued everything under heaven to see if it would satisfy him. But he ended up in a deep-rooted cycle.

Then Chuck turned to the book of Galations. “In our Christian culture,” said Chuck, “it’s totally OK to live for and pursue the same thing as non-believers”. But Chuck pointed out that Paul said otherwise. Paul had a unique calling to go to non-Jews. If the Jews are living like the world, how does the world want to become a Christ-follower?

Chuck told the story of how he and his wife were invited to ride on a private jet. While he was enjoying the luxury around him, he opened his Bible to study his next message and realized the topic was oppression and injustice in the world. How ironic. Chuck found himself sitting in a nice place thinking about oppression and justice and needs.

Chuck says it’s about being missional. “You know He’s calling you to something greater rather than living for yourself,” concluded Chuck. “There’s something just not right about being around the same people.” Chuck emphasized the need for us to truly break out of our bubble and reach out to this world.
