Susan Behforooz was born in Los Angeles, CA to two nominal Muslim parents in 1979. Beginning at age three, she visited Iran every other year. When she wasn't visiting Iran, she was trying to be like any other Southern California girl. In Orange County, the stereotype is that you're blonde, whether by birth or by bottle. When the bottles at the grocery store transformed her hair into a pumpkin orange, she covered her hair with a hat, and pretended it was blonde She was first invited to church in junior high, and continued to go through high school and college, all the while not completely understanding Christianity. Susan believed Christianity was a book of rules to follow, and that if she became a Christian, the adventurous life she desired would be turned in for miniature golf and bowling. When she was 23 years old, she had done it all, had famous boyfriends, traveled the world, gone to the Hollywood parties, and still wasn't satisfied. She thought she would try Christianity like you try a new drink at Starbucks...if you don't like it, you could always go back to your carmel macchiatto. When she was 24 years old, she met "the one", but her husband didn't realize she was the one until she was 26! They got married when she was 27. She is now 29, does not have kids, but she does have an incredible story to tell. Come hear the rest of Susan's story at Momentum 2009! |
