CollegeLeader Regional Training by Chuck Bomar: Friday, July 17, 2009
When students graduate from high school, they tend to leave the church. Chuck Bomar, College Ministry Expert, knows how to change that. Chuck is founder of College Leader, an organization focused on training those in the trenches of college ministry. He is unique in that he not only understands the college culture but he remains strongly biblical in his approach to reach and disciple college-age adults.
After serving for almost 9 years as pastor of student ministries at Cornerstone in Simi Valley, Ca., Chuck Bomar is now lead pastor of Colossae, in Portland Oregon. He’s founder of CollegeLeader - an organization focused on training those in the trenches of college ministry. He has written numerous articles and is author of Foundations of College Ministry, 99 Thought’s for College-age People, and College Ministry 101 - due to publish with Zondervan in the spring of ‘09.
Across the country, Chuck conducts one-day, regional training seminars for leaders of college-age ministries. A Pittsburgh Regional seminar is scheduled for Friday, July 17, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. -2:00 p.m. – and will be held on the campus of Robert Morris University. This CollegeLeader Regional Training opportunity is designed for anyone working with college-age people or those seeking to prepare teens for their college-age years. Training will focus on the following two seminar topics:
Teaching and Discipling College-age People
There are many different philosophies and approaches to teaching, but teaching and discipling college-age people is unique from any other stage of life. This seminar will walk through approaches that truly engage the college-age mind and heart - as well as discuss some that do the opposite. Comparing different cultural approaches and those found in different church structures with how college-age people process through information will help us see what is truly effective. This seminar dives into the heart and mind of college-age people and will help give practical application for your ministry - whether it’s from a stage or over a cup of coffee with a student.
Understanding College-age Pursuits
College-age people sift through 5 areas of life differently than any other age-stage: identity, intimacy, meaning, pleasure and truth. Understanding the search through each of these areas is crucial to college-age ministry. If these areas are not understood, our effectiveness is greatly hindered! This seminar will walk through how college-age people search through each of these areas, the things that impact their process, and how we can help guide them toward biblically mature conclusions in each area. This seminar is beneficial whether you're a vocational veteran, volunteer or parent. To register, visit CollegeLeader.org. Cost: $30 for leaders / $20 for students (quantity discounts are available).
