Hope Has a Name

If you’re reading this right now, my guess is you’ve lost something of significant value recently. Students have had everything canceled from school to proms to graduations to even summer camps and trips already. While others are experiencing loss of jobs, salary cuts, businesses shut down, and the loss of routine with their kids stuck at home. It’s understandable that all of this loss can create a very real sense of hopelessness.

You may have spent time watching the news and seeing the numbers soar for those infected with Corona virus. By now you might even know someone who’s contracted it or have a confirmed case reported in your surrounding area. Then there’s the ongoing executive orders from your governor on top of all the stories of illness, suffering, and even loss of life. It only makes the hopelessness worse!

Hopefully you are still reading because as believers in Christ, we have HOPE.

While yes, we’re experiencing great loss here are truths to stand on:

“Christ lives in you and this gives you assurance of sharing His glory.” (Colossians 1:27).

“And when you believed in Christ, He identified you as His own by giving you the Holy Spirit.” (Ephesians 1:13)

And our “hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls.” (Hebrews 6:19)

“Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: the faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning. I say to myself, ‘the Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in Him!’” (Lamentations 3:21-24)

So, “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in Him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13)

“So we tell others about Christ, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all the wisdom God has given us.” (Colossians 1:28)

“And His name will be the hope of all the world.” (Matthew 12:21)

It’s no coincidence that our theme for Momentum 2020 is based on hope in the person of Jesus. It’s just like God to line up a theme where we want to dive deeper into the hope we have in Him when something of this nature and of this magnitude is happening. If you fix your eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith (Hebrews 12:2), we will see Him at work.

We can’t foresee how exactly, but God is up to something BIG. Would you join us in faithful prayer that we would still be able to have Momentum this summer and that God would fill people with joy and peace because of trusting in Him. As Christ followers, we can overflow with a confident HOPE!
